Werkstatt Gröninger Hof
Merging Shores was a cooperative project that creates a pathway along the shore of the inner-city of Hamburg consisting of 3 site-specific installations, a mobile architectural intervention as place-activator, and the Werkstatt Gröninger Hof as a discursive forum.
The route complements an artistic exploration across multiple sites on the opposite shore of the HafenCity called THE PORTAL by Imagine the City. Through the act of crossing the canal multiple times, exploring different layers of the city, a (location-) merging effect of the dissipated areas evolves in the mind of the city dwellers.
Where Am I?’ intervention by Maud van den Beuken
Maud created an experimental expedition as an explorative journey at the Landzunge am Billhafen. Participators were asked to activate different senses and asked to describe the place through an observatory point for 15 minutes each through a megaphone. When everything has been seen and defined, what is left to still name? With the nomadic infrastructure from Mokit, we built a tool to observe the Landzunge during this expedition.
Intervention by panósmico
On the 26h of September Mexico City based collective panósmico concluded their three weeks research into finding common symbols of imperialism through merchandising and landscapes with an experiment at the Werkstatt Gröninger Hof. In a workshop sculptures were made out of clay and mud from the Elbe river developing new reliefs for the city’s symbolic landscape. The slow destruction of the sculptures of a sailing ship conquering the earth and a ship container
through drops of water manifested the exchanging fluxes between the waters of the Elbe river, its mercantile port and the destruction of its former ecosystem.
Intervention by Gran Collectivo Pantitlan
On the 11th of September Amsterdam based collective Gran Collectivo Pantitlan visited Hamburg, experimenting with concepts of communicating the city as a Foodscape through collectively developing and cooking receipts based on the
stories and ingredients discovered during the day. As part of Merging Shores the collective visited the international and regional trading hub Großmarkt Hamburg, the Turkish traders at St Georg, the climate conscious farm of WeField in the outskirts of the city and the collaborative and process-based landscape development project of Parks in Hammerbrook.
